It’s here! Check out the schedule for Amy’s fall 2010 book tour for Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People to see if she’ll be coming to your city. Additions and changes to the schedule will be posted on the tour page (not the homepage of this site, where I usually post upcoming public appearances), so I can keep everything consolidated.

Amy will be appearing at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco for an on-stage interview on Monday, November 15, 2010, 8 pm, as part of the City Arts & Lectures series. Tickets are $20 and are on sale now. If you plan to attend this, I advise purchasing tickets sooner rather than later. Amy has done this event several times before and it always sells out. Amy Sedaris is a comedienne, playwright and actress. In the early 90s, Sedaris performed in the legendary Chicago comedy troupes Second City and Annoyance Theatre. Sedaris’ best-known character is Jerri Blank, a middle-aged, former prostitute-turned-high-school student, featured on the cult series (and then movie) Strangers with Candy. Under the name “The Talent Family,” she and her brother David Sedaris have written and produced several envelope-pushing plays including Stitches and One Woman Shoe. In addition to performing, Sedaris is also known for her kitschy crafting and hostessing skills, which are detailed in I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, and the new Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People. Partially a cookbook, partially an entertaining primer, I Like You offered tips on everything from freezing meatballs to taking care of the inebriated. In Simple Times, Sedaris seeks to bring the joy of cheap crafting to the masses with projects like seashell toilet seat covers and crab-claw roach clips.

Paul Lancour has worked in broadcasting in the Bay Area for over two decades, primarily at 88.5 KQED-FM. He is also a long-time member of Crowded Fire Theater Company, and has been both an actor and sound designer with many other local theater groups. Lancour’s interviews for City Arts & Lectures include Lewis Black, Craig Ferguson and Sarah Silverman.

Amy to Speak at ALA Conference in Washington, DC

Amy will be the featured speaker at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition closing session on Tuesday, June 29, 9:00 am, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Registration is now open, and if you plan to attend, make sure to purchase the exhibits supreme badge ($75-100; this is the pass that will get you into the closing session). More info here.
